Story
Following its debut in Bourgogne, Bike to Care comes to Bordeaux for its second edition.
In 2022, Pierre-Henry Gagey of Louis Jadot and his Burgundian friends joined forces with international teams of cyclists to raise funds for associations in the restaurant and hospitality sectors. In its inaugural year, over €250,000 was collected for various charities.
On 8th and 9th May 2023, a delegation of Bordeaux châteaux (Giscours, Lynch-Bages, Palmer, Haut-Bailly and many others) will continue the fundraising efforts, welcoming teams of French and international hospitality personalities, chefs and sommeliers. They will
be participating in a test of cycling endurance that will see them covering 200km circuit through Médoc, Graves and Sauternes on subsequent days.
The UK will be supporting this year’s event with a strong team, led by Hatch Mansfield’s Mark Calver and Aaron Turner. They will be joined by members of the UK hospitality industry including Richard Davies and Richard Ball from the Calcot Collection; Joanne Taylor-Stagg from the Anthenaeum Hotel; Nicholas Davies from the Langham Hotel; Rob Flinter from the Park Plaza Waterloo Hotel; James Hiley-Jones from Greenclose Hotels; Peter Dean from the Buyer, Patrick Schmitt from the Drinks Business and John Stimpfig from First Press Publishing publications.
The entire sum of money raised by the UK team and their contributors will be donated to Hospitality Action, the trade charity for all those who work or have worked in UK hospitality. Since 1837, Hospitality Action has consistently innovated to deliver financial and mental health support alongside advice and signposting to people facing poverty, homelessness, and deteriorating mental health.
